She lived in Oklahoma for five years before moving to Oklahoma and later in West Texas before moving to Sugar Land. In the Fort Bend Community Theatre, she began taking acting lessons at age 10. She attended Clements High School, graduating in 2000. Baylor University gave her a degree in Bachelor of Fine Arts, Theatre Performance. Then she moved to Dallas after college and was the Second Thought Theatre's first members. The year 2009 saw her moved into Chicago, Illinois, to take classes in acting in The Second City Training Center. Career Highlights In 2014, Tolman starred in the premiere series of FX Black comedy crime drama Fargo. Fargo was an original 1996 Coen Brothers movie, featured Billy Bob Thornton (as Molly Solverson), Martin Freeman (as Bob Odenkirk) and Bob Odenkirk. Tolman's performance as Minnesota cop Molly Solverson was praised by Vanity Fair, who wrote: "She calmly and confidently was the star of the performance". Tolman was awarded a Critics' Choice Television Award for her performance in the category Best Supporting Actress, Movies/Miniseries. In addition, her nominations in the category of Best Actress were received at the Emmy Awards as well as the Golden Globes. Tolman also had an appearance on the Mindy Show playing Abby Berman a romance writer. In 2015, Tolman was an supporting role in Michael Dougherty's comedy horror film Krampus. Following her breakout role in Fargo, Tolman declined several roles as moms, wives and best friends in search of some more unique roles. Tolman had a role on ABC in Downward Dog (based on Animal Media Group's web-series). The series was canceled after just one season. Tolman was the main character on ABC's drama series Emergence which premiered on September 24, 2019. The show was canceled on May 21, 2020 after just one episode despite "pretty strong" numbers, as per Tolman. In addition, she was a guest on NBC's Good Girls. In 2021, she appeared as Alma Filcott in the second season of the drama show Why Women Kill, and was Natalie Green in The Facts of Life portion of the third edition of Live in Front of a Studio Audience.
